Press Release
The force is awakening this year at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County with a special Kenner Toy exhibit and symposium. Just in Time for the Holidays: Kenner Toys features the toys and brands Kenner designed and developed from the 1940s through the 1990s. The exhibit is on display Nov. 20–Jan. 16, 2016 in the Joseph S. Stern, Jr. Cincinnati Room at the Main Library.
The exhibit was curated by Dan Flarida and Josh Blake of KennerCollector.com and includes toys from the Star Wars, Strawberry Shortcake, Batman, Jurassic Park and Ghostbusters collections along with Play-Doh, Spirograph and the Easy-Bake Oven.
The public is invited to a special symposium with former Kenner employees from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Main Library. This event includes a screening of the documentary Plastic Galaxy: The Story of Star Wars Toys which examines the history and pop-culture impact of Kenner’s Star Wars toy line. Event-goers will learn about the history of Kenner, participate in panel sessions and watch video interviews.
The Main Library is also home to two companion displays. Beloved Toys takes a fun look at childhood memories of favorite Kenner toys. The display is inside the Popular Library Department at the Main Library. Brought to You by Maker Toys in the Main Library MakerSpace will showcase toys made from equipment such as the 3D printer and the laser engraver
