If you grew up with Voltron in your life, you are undoubtedly a fan of the franchise and animated series. It was a massive hit in the 80s and helped open doors for other Japanese-style properties in the US market. Voltron defended our universe from 1984 to 1987 and was, as detailed in the New York Times, the number one syndicated children’s show for two years running. During these years, the show and its characters were simply everywhere, and it still enjoys a devoted, almost cult following today.

The series itself grew out of two Japanese animated series. The first, Beast King GoLoin, was the basis for the first season as Voltron formed “Lion Force Voltron“. Starting with season two, the “Vehicle Voltron” took center stage and was based on the Armored Fleet Dairugger XV seriesIn any event, this team of astronauts coming together to form an iconic oversized defender is an image that frames 80s Saturday morning cartoons. Rarely do you see this animation period discussed without some reference to Voltron.

Now, Funko Pop! is paying homage to the character with this incredible new Pop!
