I am a self-described X-Files fan. I loved everything about this series. I watched the spin-offs (Millennium, Lone Gunmen), had the obligatory crush on Scully (aka Gillian Anderson), and followed every episode through all nine seasons (yes, even when Mulder and Scully were gone) as they aired. The fact that the series is returning for a miniseries in early 2016 is nothing short of a gift from the television gods for me. I honestly never thought the day would come, especially if you factor in just how long we’ve waited. Minus the post-series, second X-Files film (the first occurring during the original run between seasons five and six), we’ve waited almost 14 years. The only fandom that can claim more patience than that is Doctor Who. Those fans waited a full 16 years (minus a single movie).

Just in time for the holidays, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is rolling out The X-Files: The Collector’s Set featuring all eight seasons on Blu-ray. Surprisingly, this is the first time the series has seen a Blu-ray release. The box set even has a slot where you can later add the upcoming miniseries (once it’s released). This big box hits on December the 8th, the same date as each individual season is released.

Ready to take the binge watch challenge?

The new series debuts on January 24th and 25th, 2016 with a two-night premiere. That gives you 47 days to rewatch the entire series if you have this set delivered on the day it’s available (and don’t wrap it for Christmas). Given there were 202 episodes in the series, you will need to average between 4-5 episodes each day to allow you time to work on the two movies before the new miniseries debuts. Now if you include Millennium (which ran for 67 episodes) and the Lone Gunnmen (which ran for 13 episodes), it would make the numbers come out to a perfect 6 episode viewing schedule per day. There is something slightly interesting about how that final tally (282 episodes) divides so perfectly into the 47 days, but we’ll leave that story for the conspiracy folks.
